The children’s charity Barnardo’s is to open a new store in Macclesfield as it looks to boost its fundraising in the town.

It is fitting out the ground floor, unit 3, Thornton Square Shopping Centre, after agreeing a 10-year lease.

The 829 sq ft store, which opens at the end of January, will be the third Barnardo’s to open in the town and will complement the two existing retail spaces in Mill Street.

A Barnardo’s spokesperson said: “We are pleased to have secured these premises as part of our continuing expansion across the UK and look forward to creating a lasting business relationship with London & Cambridge Properties.

“As a charity, we rely very much on our team of dedicated volunteers and good quality donations of clothing, toys and furniture that we can sell to the public. We’re looking forward to meeting new customers.”

Matt Pegg, retail asset manager, said the opening of the Barnardo’s store in the local convenience parade meant that all nine retail units were now let.

Tenants include The Co-operative Food Group, and McColls Newsagents.

“Thornton Square is a busy neighbourhood shopping parade, situated at the centre of a thriving suburb and it is great to see that the community is now being served by a full range of shops there,” he added.
